BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – In a compassionate move to assist the furry victims of Hurricane Idalia, the Greater Birmingham Humane Society (GBHS) has sprung into action.
The GBHS is on a mission to provide relief items to pets adversely affected by the relentless forces of Hurricane Idalia. With their chief program officer at the helm, they are diligently collecting essential supplies that include canned dog and cat food, dry pet sustenance, leashes, collars, travel crates, and anything that may have been lost by pet owners during the storm’s devastating aftermath. Furthermore, they are extending their support to animals housed in rescue shelters scattered across the hurricane-ravaged regions.
GBHS stands ready, awaiting the crucial call that will determine where their support is needed most urgently. Once the call arrives, GBHS’s dedicated team and volunteers will personally embark on journeys to these locations, ensuring the prompt delivery of these vital supplies.
Ivana Sullivan, Chief Program Officer for GBHS, emphasizes the significance of proximity in this humanitarian endeavor. She asserts, “The closer you are, the faster and quicker you can get things to those folks than the more northern shelters.”
In these challenging times, GBHS’s unwavering commitment to aiding our four-legged companions in need stands as a beacon of hope amidst the storm’s aftermath.
