Vision RNG, an energy company, disclosed on Wednesday that nearly 10,000 Missouri residents could access natural gas generated from emissions produced by organic waste in a landfill.
The renewable natural gas initiative is fully operational at a Bowling Green landfill, as announced by Vision RNG. By harnessing emissions from waste decomposition, this project offers a sustainable energy source capable of annually heating around 8,800 households.
Unlike other emerging energy solutions, such as hydrogen, this gas can be directly injected into an interstate pipeline network for broader utilization.
As organic materials decompose, they release methane, a natural gas. Purification eliminates harmful elements, enhancing its efficacy.
UGI Corp., a natural gas and electric power distributor, and MBL Bioenergy pledged $150 million in January. Together, they’re establishing renewable natural gas projects in South Dakota that repurpose dairy farm waste.
