Exes Sofía Vergara and Joe Manganiello Offer Conflicting Accounts of Divorce

Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello, once a Hollywood power couple, are offering contrasting narratives about the reasons behind their 2023 divorce.

Earlier this year, Vergara, known for her role on “Modern Family,” attributed the split to their age difference and her desire not to expand their family. She told El País, “My marriage broke up because my husband was younger; he wanted to have kids and I didn’t want to be an old mom.”

However, in a recent interview with Men’s Journal, Manganiello, star of “True Blood,” challenged this explanation. He called Vergara’s claim “simply not true,” emphasizing that wanting children wasn’t the “inevitable reason” for the divorce. He suggests a more nuanced reality: “Sometimes, two people grow apart, and that happens.”

Manganiello, currently 47, further refuted the portrayal of him pressuring Vergara for children. He explained they had a frank conversation early in their relationship, stating, “I said, ‘If you’re done with kids, then I understand. Just tell me, and I’ll know what this is, and that’s okay.'”

He claims Vergara expressed a desire for children at the time, and he committed to staying with her regardless of the outcome. “And I swore to her that I would never leave if it didn’t work out. And I didn’t,” Manganiello added.

Vergara, already a mother to a 32-year-old son, has expressed her contentment with her current family dynamic. She told El País, “I feel it’s not fair to the baby. I respect whoever does it, but that’s not for me anymore.” Vergara seems ready to embrace the role of grandmother rather than adding to her own family.

The couple married in 2015, and their seemingly idyllic union ended in 2023 with both parties citing “irreconcilable differences” in their divorce filings. While the exact reasons remain unclear, these contrasting statements paint a picture of a more complex situation than originally presented.
