New York City’s Union Square park descended into chaos as thousands of people flocked to the location enticed by a giveaway of video game consoles, as announced by social media influencer Kai Cenat. However, the event turned violent, resulting in clashes with the police and the arrest of 65 individuals, including 30 juveniles. During the melee, both law enforcement officers and civilians sustained injuries, as revealed in a news conference by Jeffrey Maddrey, the highest-ranking uniformed officer of the New York Police Department.

The giveaway that triggered this tumultuous event was set to include computers and Playstation 5 consoles, as mentioned in a video Cenat posted to his followers on Thursday.

The situation escalated until Cenat, renowned for his Twitch live streams and YouTube videos, was safely evacuated from the park by the police. Consequently, he now faces charges of inciting a riot and unlawful assembly.

At only 21 years old, Cenat boasts an impressive following of 6.5 million on Twitch and 4 million subscribers on YouTube, earning him the prestigious title of “Streamer of the Year” at the 2022 Streamy Awards.
