Taylor Swift kicked off her two-night Eras tour in Lisbon, Portugal with a warm welcome for her fans. In a surprise move, the 34-year-old singer spoke Portuguese during the opening of her first-ever concert in the city on May 24th.

A video captured by The Hollywood Reporter shows Swift thanking the crowd with a heartfelt “Muito obrigada” (thank you very much) at Lisbon’s Estádio da Luz stadium. The enthusiastic audience erupted in cheers after her greeting.

Swift’s connection with the Portuguese fans went beyond words. Throughout the concert, she used Portuguese phrases to ensure fans’ well-being, according to social media videos. While performing new songs, she reportedly called for security assistance with “Ayuda por favor” (help please).

This concert marked a special moment for Portuguese Swifties who had been waiting for a long time. Their initial chance to see her at the Alive festival in July 2020 was cancelled due to the pandemic.

This European leg of the Eras tour has seen Swift unveil a variety of new stage looks, including a custom Vivienne Westwood gown with lyrics from her latest album, an orange Versace ensemble, and a yellow Alberta Ferretti dress.

For her Paris show on May 12th, Swift received support from her boyfriend Travis Kelce, along with friends Gigi Hadid and Bradley Cooper.
