John Cleese, the beloved comedian known for Monty Python, bravely shared his struggles following his third divorce. The 84-year-old revealed a period of depression after his split from Alyce Faye Eichelberger in 2008.

Financial strain from the divorce settlement, reported to be nearly £16 million, contributed to Cleese’s emotional breakdown. He sought professional help in a “clinic” to address his mental health.

“It hit me after everything with the divorce was settled,” Cleese explained to Saga magazine. “There were some dark moments,” he admitted, but clarified, “I wasn’t suicidal, although I did have thoughts along those lines, but not seriously.”

Thankfully, Cleese found support in his current wife, Jennifer Wade, whom he married in 2012. “She’s amazing,” he said, “We share a deep connection that allows us to be goofy together.”

Cleese addressed the significant age difference between him and the 52-year-old jewelry designer. “People comment on it,” he said, “but once they see us together, they understand.” He credits Jennifer’s humor and youthful spirit for keeping him young at heart.
