After a long and winding road, the iconic He-Man is finally set to hit the big screen. Nicholas Galitzine, known for his recent role in the romantic comedy “The Idea of You,” will portray the legendary hero in the upcoming “Masters of the Universe” film.

The movie, directed by “Bumblebee” director Travis Knight, is slated for a theatrical release on June 5, 2026.

“Masters of the Universe” has had a troubled journey to theaters. Initially developed at Warner Bros. and Sony, the project bounced around Hollywood for over two decades, with directors like Jon M. Chu and the Nee brothers attached at various points. Kyle Allen was also previously considered for the He-Man role.

This new iteration of the classic franchise will be penned by Chris Butler, taking inspiration from the original 1982 action figure. Plot details remain a mystery, but a previous synopsis hinted at Prince Adam’s crash landing on Earth and his eventual return to his home planet, Eternia, to face the villainous Skeletor.

The film will be produced by Escape Artists and Mattel Films. “Masters of the Universe” joins a growing list of live-action adaptations from Mattel Films, including “Barney” starring Daniel Kaluuya and Vin Diesel’s “Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots.”

“We are thrilled to bring He-Man back to life and couldn’t be happier to have Nicholas Galitzine as our champion,” said Julie Rapaport, head of film production at Amazon MGM Studios. “This reimagining of the beloved characters and world promises to be an epic adventure for fans everywhere.”

Galitzine’s casting continues his successful collaboration with Amazon Studios, following his roles in “The Idea of You” and “Red, White & Royal Blue.”
