Kevin Costner isn’t giving up on his epic Western saga “Horizon: An American Saga Chapter 1” even though it didn’t bring in huge crowds opening weekend.
The actor and director, who poured his own money into the project, told Entertainment Weekly that he’s used to the ups and downs of movie releases. Focusing too much on opening weekend numbers can lead to disappointment, he says.
Costner is more concerned with the quality of the film itself. He’s proud of how “Horizon” turned out visually and believes that’s more important than immediate box office success.
Of course, he would love for the movie to be a hit, but his main goal was to make a film he could stand behind creatively.

Costner also feels strongly about seeing his movies on the big screen. He acknowledges the financial risks involved, especially since he invested heavily in “Horizon,” but he believes the theatrical experience is essential.
The initial box office performance may not be ideal, but Costner is determined to keep telling his story. The second chapter of “Horizon” is scheduled for release in August, and he promises there’s more to come.
