  • Oldest Runestone in history is found in Ohio, Norway forms part of the Museum in Oslo.
  • The stone traces back 2000 years ago and has several inscriptions which can be dated to 250 ADS.
  • The stone found in 2021 has been exhibited on Jan 12 and will be in Museum for one month.

In 2021 world’s oldest Runestone was found in Tyrifjord west of Ohio. The stone is now at the museum in Norway from Jan 12 called as Museum of Cultural History Oslo.

The rock was found in an ancient burial ground in the excavation which measured 30 by 30 cm (12 by 12 inches) and was square sandstone brown rock. It was found ahead of the railway line construction. The inscription on the stone dates back to the earliest days of the enigmatic history of runic writing.

It has words inscribed which are traced back to the earliest examples of writing in Scandivania, the Museum of Cultural History in Oslo. It also has several other types of inscriptions but all of them don’t make sense from a linguistic point of view.

Apart from the stone carbon dating of bones and wood was also found in the grave beside the rune which suggests that it was inscribed around 250 ADS as per the Museum. It is said that it is surely one of the oldest runes and it will give a lot of knowledge about the use of Runes in the early Iron Age.

The earliest runic found so far is in Bone Comb in Denmark which resembles the tip of a knife or needle used to carve runes.

Runologist Kristel Zilmer says ‘sensational excavation’ in academic history:

Professor Kristel Zilmer explains the findings as, “the most sensational thing that I, as an academic, have had.” “Without doubt, we will obtain valuable knowledge about the early history of runic writing,” Zilmer said.

“We needed time to analyze and date the runestone,” she said to explain why the finding was first announced on Tuesday.

The runologists have dreamt of this discovery which traces back to the time of Jesus Christ as per the runologist who study the ancient alphabets and inscriptions in their history.

“We thought that the first ones in Norway and Sweden appeared in the years 300 or 400, but it turns out that some runestones could be even older than we previously believed”, runologist Kristel Zilmer told Norwegian news agency NTB.

This rune stone is to be exhibited for a month in the Museum of Cultural History in Oslo.

So, as per this report and the discovery it is a human privilege to find such amazing stones from our ancient history which shall signify old age and historic events highlighting the power of humans in the oldest times.
