Four citizens from the US were kidnapped by armed men in Mexico after crossing the border as per the statement given by the FBI. They were unidentified and assaulted the citizens before the kidnapping.

Special agent in charge of the FBI’s San Antonio Division announced on Saturday, that the US citizens came under gunfire after crossing border on Friday, through the city of Matamoros, in Tamaulipas state, across Brownsville.

After the gunmen fired upon the passengers in the vehicle and four Americans were kidnapped through other vehicle after the victims crossed into Mexico driving a white minivan with North Carolina license plates. These four Americans were taken from the scene by the men in another vehicle.

The names of the kidnapped are not yet disclosed by Law enforcement and their conditions are not known.

The U.S. Consulate had issued alert about the shooting in city on Friday, the reports said that a person had been killed but it is not confirmed by the consulate yet. 

“U.S. government employees have been instructed to avoid the area until further notice,” the alert reads.

FBI offers $50,000 each for finding the criminals and victims: 

A reward of $50,000 has been offered by FBI for identifying the meant who assaulted and kidnapped the citizens. Also, $50,000 have been offered separately for the return of victims and arrest of those involved in crime by FBI.

The U.S. State department has issued “Level 4: Do Not Travel” for US citizens in Tamaulipas, citing crime and kidnapping there while Mexican agencies are investigating. It has been appealed that any information about the case must be informed to FBI San Antonio Division or on a tip online.
