The Hawaiian island of Maui has been gripped by a catastrophe, as wildfires ignited on August 8 have tragically become the state’s deadliest natural disaster.

These infernos, fueled by arid conditions from a drought and fierce winds, have swiftly ravaged the region. Much of the historical town of Lahaina lies in ruins, and the flames have razed numerous homes and businesses.

Amidst this dire situation, many have lost their lives, and additional individuals remain unaccounted for.

While the fires rage on, Maui’s officials indicate that a substantial number of people are yet to be located.

Hawaii’s Governor, Josh Green, shared in his latest briefing on Tuesday night that the death toll from the Maui fires has now tragically reached 101.

As the Maui community embarks on the arduous path to recovery, U.S. Attorney Clare Connors warns against potential scams targeting the displaced populace.

Connors emphasizes deceptive tactics involving well-known charitable names for personal gain, impersonation of officials or insurers, and fraudulent investment schemes. These scams exploit those seeking recovery services and support after the disaster.

Efforts continue to gather DNA samples from families to aid in identifying the deceased. Currently, 13 DNA profiles have been secured from those who lost their lives, and 41 DNA samples come from family members of the missing, according to official sources.

Addressing the dire circumstances, President Joe Biden affirmed his commitment to aiding the affected millions during an event in Milwaukee. The federal government stands resolute in its support during this challenging period.
