Tragic Plane Crash Claims Life in Lake Hamilton

In a heartbreaking incident, a plane plunged into Lake Hamilton on Monday morning, resulting in a fatality. The Garland County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) has confirmed the occurrence of the accident.

According to GCSO officials, they received a distress call from the Hot Spring airport control tower around 8 a.m., reporting the crash of a single-engine Cessna 177 aircraft in a cove off Port-au-Prince Street on Lake Hamilton.

Emergency responders swiftly arrived at the scene, where they found a 23-year-old female occupant of the plane. She was immediately transported to a local hospital and subsequently airlifted to UAMS for further medical attention.

Sadly, the life of the second person on board, identified as 49-year-old Daniel Dale Jones from Kentucky, could not be saved and was recovered deceased by divers.

Reportedly, the ill-fated aircraft was en route from Kentucky and had requested permission to land in Hot Springs due to distress. However, it failed to reach its destination, prompting the county’s 911 center to be alerted.

Authorities have not yet disclosed the cause of the crash, and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is currently conducting an investigation into the incident.
