Fast forward to this year, she received a nomination for best supporting actress for her role in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
In the Black Panther films, Bassett brought to life the character of Queen Ramonda, leaving an indelible mark on the franchise. Her impressive filmography also includes notable appearances in acclaimed works such as Boyz N the Hood, Malcolm X, Music of the Heart, and Mission: Impossible – Fallout.
Joining Bassett as recipients of honorary Oscars are two other legends of the entertainment industry. Comedy icon Mel Brooks, at the age of 96, will be honored for his immeasurable contributions.
