The City of Orlando is doing something important to help people heal and remember. They’re making a special place on the land where the Pulse nightclub used to be. This is where a really sad thing happened seven years ago, and we want to remember it.

The leaders of the city decided to buy the Pulse nightclub land for $2 million. The mayor of Orlando, Buddy Dyer, said that they want to work together with the families of the people who were hurt in making this special place.

Looking Back at the Sad Past

On June 12, 2016, something very bad happened at the Pulse nightclub, and everyone in Orlando and the whole country remembers it. On that night, a person named Omar Mateen started shooting inside the nightclub. Forty-nine people lost their lives, and 53 others got hurt. At that time, it was the worst shooting like this in the U.S. But the next year, something even worse happened in Las Vegas when 58 people lost their lives and more than 850 were hurt during a country music festival with 22,000 people.

The scary situation at the Pulse nightclub came to an end when a special police team faced Mateen and stopped him. He had promised to follow a group called the Islamic State. This was the end of a very tense and long situation.

A Memorial We’ve Been Waiting For

People have been making plans to build a special place at the Pulse nightclub for many years. But earlier this year, a group called the onePulse Foundation said they had to make their big $100 million plan smaller because they couldn’t get enough money.

Right now, the Pulse nightclub building is still there, and there’s a temporary thing around it to remember the people who were hurt or lost on that sad night. We want to keep remembering them.

The onePulse Foundation said, “We are excited to be a part of talking with the City of Orlando as this goes forward.”

In the end, Orlando’s choice to make a special place at the Pulse nightclub reminds us to stay strong and come together when bad things happen. We will always remember the people we lost, and it’s important to stay united, heal, and never forget.
