In a remarkable stroke of luck, the winning ticket for the staggering $1 billion Powerball jackpot has been sold in California.
Wednesday night’s draw revealed the lucky numbers: 7, 10, 11, 13, and 24, with the Powerball number being 24. The life-changing ticket found its new owner at the Las Palmitas Mini Market in Los Angeles, as announced by the California Lottery.
Notable winnings were also secured by other participants, as three tickets in Florida, Pennsylvania, and Rhode Island managed to secure $2 million each. Furthermore, there were numerous Match 5 winners, with seven in California, and four in each of the following states: Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Massachusetts, and New York. Additionally, two winners were reported in Maryland and New Jersey, while the states of Missouri, New Hampshire, Ohio, Texas, Wisconsin, and West Virginia had one winner each. Remarkably, the Powerball had gone through an impressive 38 consecutive drawings without a jackpot winner since April 19.
The fortunate recipient of this grand prize has two options for claiming their winnings: either opting for annual payments over 30 years with a 5% increase each year, or choosing a lump sum payment.
This recent accomplishment marks the third time in Powerball’s three-decade history that a jackpot has reached the billion-dollar milestone. In November 2022, a man in Altadena, California, claimed a staggering $2.04 billion prize, the largest jackpot in Powerball history. The only other instance of the Powerball jackpot crossing the billion-dollar mark occurred in January 2016 when three tickets shared a $1.586 billion prize.
The possibility of becoming an overnight millionaire continues to captivate hopeful participants nationwide.
